House of Light
Chevy Chase, Maryland
A Chevy Chase custom home located in the Town of Somerset is a contemporary stunner – a Hugh Newell Jacobsen Dream House design, customized and adapted to cater to the client’s distinct needs and aesthetic desires.
From an aerial view, the house takes the shape of an ‘H’ – a composition of linked pavilions joined at perpendicular angles. A dramatic approach to the entry features a steel and concrete bridge with embedded LED lighting and glass railings; Below, a Japanese-inspired Zen garden allows natural light to enter the basement. The interior is sparse and minimalistic with contemporary detailing such as white-washed walls, ebonized hickory hardwood floors, and slender, vertical windows throughout the home.
The expansive living room opens to a porch with a striking vaulted-ceiling spanning the length of the center pavilion. A wall of over-sized windows establishes a seamless transition from interior to exterior. The elongated pool with a marble surround is inspired by the reflecting pool at the Washington Monument.
